Pre-planning:
1) We will use materials for our campsite that reduce/eliminate waste by utilizing reusable and recyclable materials.
2) We avoid bring flimsy products and small trinkets that are likely to be left on the playa or may blow away and become moop.
3) We set up our camp in a way that is easy to keep clean.
4) We plan the breakdown of our camp in a way that all stakes, boards etc. are accounted for, and we pack all tools necessary for an efficient, clean break-down.
5) We designate Steve Durtschi as our 2008 camp LNT expert. He will ensure that our camp is clean before, during and after the event. He will help in planning of our purchases. He will also be there for the setup and breakdown to ensure that we truly leave no trace.
6) We will bring the following items for clean-up day:
Flat blade shovels
Whiskbroom
5-gallon buckets and mesh bag for wet kitchen scraps
separate containers for recyclables, burnables, and non-burnables
Rope and string for tying loose stuff down
Small spare bags for collecting trash as we wander
Work gloves
Heavy-duty trash bags
All tools for removing stakes and rebar.
Containers for smokers’ butts
During the event:
1) Our LNT expert will assign a daily camp patrol person to frequently scout the camp and surrounding area for moop. This person will also be responsible for making sure garbage/recyclable containers are emptied and relined with bags as needed.
2) Because of our extensive hauling capacity and proximity to the event (Grass
Valley, Ca) we will make our camp recycling/garbage resources available to camp visitors for disposing of their personal items (within reason). This will reduce stuff dropped by wandering souls who run out of “carrying capacity”. (We have done this in the past years with no problems or abuse from passersby).
After the event:
1) After the LNT break-down and load-up of our camp, on Tuesday Sept. 4, we will spend a minimum of 12 burner-hours cleaning the playa area out to the fence line. Anything we find is combined with our personal camp garbage/recyclables.
2) On arrival home, all garbage and recyclables are taken to the McCourtney Rd. transfer station and recycling center in Grass Valley.
